<strong>how decisions are made<\/strong>, <strong>what guides them<\/strong>, and <strong>what boundaries are deliberately upheld<\/strong> to protect trust, neutrality, and long-term value for learners and communities.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Governance is treated as a responsibility \u2014 not a formality.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-our-governance-purpose\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our governance purpose<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Governance at WhereWeLearn exists to ensure that:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>the charity remains focused on its public benefit purpose<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>decisions are made transparently and responsibly<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>learning remains free, accessible, and non-commercial<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>neutrality, privacy, and safety are actively protected<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>short-term opportunity never outweighs long-term trust<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Governance is not about control or ownership.<br \/>It is about stewardship.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-how-decisions-are-guided\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How decisions are guided<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Decisions at WhereWeLearn are guided by a consistent set of principles.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>When considering new work, partnerships, funding, or changes, we ask:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Does this serve learners and the public interest?<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Does this preserve neutrality and inclusion?<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Does this respect privacy and consent?<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Does this avoid creating dependency, pressure, or exclusion?<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Can this be explained clearly and openly to the public?<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If the answer to any of these is unclear, the decision is paused or declined.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-what-we-deliberately-do-not-optimise-for\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we deliberately do not optimise for<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To protect trust and independence, WhereWeLearn does <strong>not<\/strong> optimise for:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>rapid growth at the expense of clarity or safety<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>engagement metrics that encourage pressure or addiction<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>commercial leverage, advertising, or data monetisation<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>exclusivity, lock-in, or proprietary control over learning<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>visibility or prestige that compromises neutrality<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Some opportunities are intentionally declined \u2014 even when they appear beneficial \u2014 if they conflict with these principles.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-neutrality-and-independence\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Neutrality and independence<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn maintains neutrality by design.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This means:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>no political, religious, or commercial agendas<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>no preferential treatment for specific providers<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>no paid promotion or ranking of learning materials<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>no influence from funders over educational direction<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Independence is essential to credibility.<br \/>Funding supports the charity\u2019s mission \u2014 it does not steer it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-conflicts-of-interest\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conflicts of interest<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn recognises that conflicts of interest can arise in any organisation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Our approach is to:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>identify potential conflicts early<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>disclose them internally<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>ensure they do not influence decisions that affect public benefit<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Where conflicts cannot be adequately managed, the relevant activity or decision is avoided.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Transparency is preferred over assumption.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-risk-safety-and-restraint\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risk, safety, exclusion or bias<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>unintended consequences of scale<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>misuse or misinterpretation of learning pathways<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>pressure placed on learners or families<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>When uncertainty exists, restraint is treated as a responsible choice.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-what-is-still-evolving\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is still evolving<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Some governance elements are intentionally evolving as the charity formalises and grows, including:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>long-term governance structures<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>advisory or oversight arrangements<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>formal policies and reporting mechanisms<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As these mature, they will be documented openly through the Transparency Hub.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Clarity will always take precedence over speed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-accountability\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accountability<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn is accountable to:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>learners and families who rely on the service<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>partners and collaborators<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>funders who support public benefit<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>regulators and the wider public<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This page exists so that governance is visible rather than assumed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"
