This page explains, in plain language, how we think about data, safety, and risk, and where we deliberately draw boundaries.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If something is unclear, we would rather explain it than assume understanding.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-our-starting-position\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our starting position<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn is built on a simple principle:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>People should be able to explore learning freely, without surveillance, pressure, or commercial influence.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>That principle shapes every decision about data, safety, and system design.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-what-data-we-collect-at-a-high-level\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What data we collect (at a high level)<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn collects a limited amount of technical information to help us understand whether the service is functioning and useful.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This may include:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>aggregated usage counts (such as visits or page views)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>broad geographic information at country level<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>high-level technical signals needed for reliability and security<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This information is used only to:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>maintain and improve the service<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>understand general patterns of use<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>ensure stability and accessibility<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>All reporting is done at an <strong>aggregate level<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-what-we-do-not-collect\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What we do not collect<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To avoid misuse or harm, WhereWeLearn does <strong>not<\/strong>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>sell or trade personal data<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>track people across the web<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>use advertising or behavioural profiling<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>infer personal characteristics, identities, or outcomes<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>collect data for commercial purposes<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Learning should not come with hidden costs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-no-advertising-no-manipulation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">No advertising, no manipulation<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn does not:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>run advertising<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>personalise content for commercial gain<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>optimise for attention, addiction, or pressure<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We do not design for \u201cengagement at any cost\u201d.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Learning is treated as a human activity, not a metric.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-safety-and-risk-awareness\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety and risk awareness<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Safety is broader than technical security.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn considers risks such as:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>bias or exclusion in how learning is presented<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>unintended pressure on learners or families<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>misuse of learning pathways or recommendations<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>over-reliance on automated systems<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>When uncertainty exists, we choose restraint.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Not everything that can be built should be built.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-children-families-and-vulnerable-users\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Children, families, and vulnerable users<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn is used by people of different ages and circumstances.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We therefore:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>avoid persuasive or manipulative design<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>avoid dark patterns or pressure-based prompts<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>aim for clarity and simplicity over optimisation<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Where additional safeguards are appropriate, they are approached cautiously and proportionately.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-third-party-content-and-links\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Third-party content and links<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>WhereWeLearn signposts learning materials that are hosted elsewhere.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This means:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>content remains under the control of its original providers<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>external sites have their own policies and terms<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>WhereWeLearn does not modify or monetise linked content<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We aim to be clear about these boundaries so people can make informed choices.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"
